General Information

The primary purpose of the work study programs, both federal and state, is to provide part-time employment (average of 12 hours a week) to students who demonstrate financial need in order to defray the cost of higher education. The work study programs provide equal employment opportunities for students without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex or age.

The work study pay rate will be at least the current federal minimum wage. UTPA pays work study students directly once a month. Work Study awards do not directly or automatically pay any tuition and fees.

The amount a student receives in wages under work study cannot exceed the total Federal Work Study amount awarded. The employer considers the student's class schedule when preparing the student's work schedule.
