TANF Exemption Program |

Program Purpose To encourage those students whose parents received TANF to attend college. For more information visit the states website: www.collegefortexans.com Qualifications To be eligible to apply for this exemption the student must: 1) Be a Texas resident 2) Have graduated from a public high school in Texas 3) Have been a dependent child whose parents received financial assistance through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) for at least 6 months during the student’s senior year of high school. 4) Be under 22 years of age at the time of enrollment 5) Enroll as an undergraduate student and start using the award within 24 months after his or her date of high school graduation Award Amount The exemption covers tuition and fees for the first academic year (consecutive terms) in which the student enrolls . It does not cover property deposit fees. Application Process The student must submit an official letter, Form 1065E, from the Texas Department of Human Services to the Student Financial Services Office stating that he or she has received assistance for at least 6 months of his or her senior year of high school.
