Foster Care Students Program

Program Purpose

To provide tuition assistance to students who were in foster care when they turned 18 years of age. For more information visit the states website: www.collegefortexans.com

Qualifications

To be eligible to apply for this exemption the student must:

1) Be a Texas resident

2) Have been in care or conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) on the day before his or her 18th birthday, the day of his or her graduation from school or the day of receiving a GED OR were in the care or conservatorship of the TDFPS through their 14th birthday and were then adopted

3) Enroll in college as and undergraduate student within 3 years of the relevant date mentioned above but no later than his or her 21st birthday

Award Amount

The exemption covers tuition and fees. No property deposit fees.

Once the student has been determined eligible for the award, the award continues indefinitely.  There are no durational limitations in statue referencing how many semesters or years a student may receive this exemption.

Application Process

The student must provide official written proof from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services of eligibility to the Student Financial Services Office.
