Early High School Graduation Scholarship On or after 9/01/05 |

Program Purpose To encourage and help students who have completed grades 9-12 early or with a certain number of college hours to attend college in Texas by providing them with tuition and fees assistance. For more information visit the states website: www.collegefortexans.com Qualifications To be eligible to apply for the Early High School Graduation Scholarship the student must: 1) Be a Texas resident 2) Have attended high school in Texas only 3) Have graduated from a Texas public high school on or after 09/01/2005 4) Have completed either the recommended high school curriculum or the distinguished achievement high school curriculum in no more than 36 consecutive months; however, the maximum time allowed to complete the requirements for grades 9-12 may be extended to 41 months or less with a lesser award Or extended to 45 consecutive months or less if the student also graduates with at least 30 hours of college credit. 5) Register for the Selective Service or are exempt from this requirement Award Amount The exemption covers the student's tuition and mandatory fees up to the award amount. A student who graduates in no more than 36 months receives $2000.00. If he or she also graduates with at least 15 semester credit hours of college credit he or she may receive an additional $1000.00. A student who graduates in more than 36 months but less than 41 months receives $500.00. If he or she also graduates with at least 30 semesters credit hours of college credit, he or she may receive an additional $1000.00. A student who graduates in more than 41 months but less than 45 months can receive $1000.00 if he or she graduates with at least 30 semester credit hours of college credit. Eligibility to receive an award through this program begins with the first regular semester following high school graduation (excluding the summer session between graduation and the first fall term). Eligibility ends six years later, unless the student seeks and is granted a hardship extension. Application Process The student can click here to download the application, or contact the Coordinating Board to request an application. The student’s high school counselor needs to submit a certification form to the Coordinating Board on the student’s behalf. The Coordinating Board will assess the student’s eligibility and determines the award. If the student qualifies, the Coordinating Board will send an award letter to the student, the high school and the college. Award Amount The award amount is $1000.00. The exemption covers the student's tuition only, no fees, up to the award amount. This award can be used for the summer immediately following the student’s graduation from high school. There is no time limit as to when the exemption can be used, it continues until the full $1000 award has been used. It does not cover remedial and non-credit courses.
