Blind/Deaf Student Exemption Program

Program Purpose

To help enable blind and deaf students to attend Texas state public colleges or universities.  For more information visit the states website: www.collegefortexans.com

Qualifications

To be eligible to apply for this exemption the student must:

1) Be a Texas resident

2) Declare a program of study at the time of applying

3) Provide certification from the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services of status as a blind or deaf person

4) Enroll in classes for which the college receives tax support

 Award Amount

This exemption can only be used at Texas public colleges or universities.

The exemption covers all dues, fees, and enrollment charges whatsoever for which exemptions may be lawfully made, including: fees for correspondence courses, general property deposit fees, and student service fees. 

It does not cover fees or charges for lodging, board, or clothing. No funds may be used to pay tuition for continuing education classes for which the college receives no state tax support.

Application Process

The student must provide the certification from the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services of status as a blind person or a deaf person to Juan Mata, Associate Comptroller.
